Earlier this year, TSC Research Manager Dr. Carole Mars was appointed by the StEP Steering Committee as the new StEP Regional focal point for North America. This position serves as the connection between the StEP Secretariat and StEP members, activities, and issues.
Dr. Mars is the Research Manager of several sector workings groups at The Sustainability Consortium including: Electronics, Toys, Home and Personal Care, and General Merchandise. She also leads the Electronic End-of-Life Takeback workgroup that is developing a standard assessment for the effectiveness of product takeback programs. The Solving the E-waste Problem (StEP) initiative is a research organization under the United Nations University. The initiative is focused on developing science-based information and methods for addressing the variety of issues relevant to electronic and electrical equipment end-of-life and on coordinating communication of this work to industry, academics, governments, and other interested stakeholders to move the field to a better, more sustainable way of handling e-waste.
