ARIZONA, USA, – February 26, 2013 – Today, The Sustainability Consortium announces its newest member, The Hershey Company, as a large contributor to the Food, Beverage, and Agriculture Sector Working Group.

The Hershey Company is the largest producer of quality chocolate in North America and has operations worldwide. Hershey’s on going commitment to the environment has been made known through their understanding of their role as stewards of the environment. The company is devoted to making and delivering their products in ways that are both sustainable and socially responsible. Their environmental efforts are on both a global and local scale and are continuing to discover new ways of meeting functional requirements through product design, sustainable sourcing, and efficient business operations through innovation.

The Food, Beverage, and Agriculture Sector Working Group is TSC’s largest sector and was the first sector to form at TSC’s inception in July 2009. The sector is home to big name participants such as Kellogg’s, MillerCoors, and PepsiCo, Inc. Hershey will help TSC and other stakeholders continue to improve the environmental and social sustainability of global agriculture and supply chains by continuing to focus on important hotspots that impact the industry.

“We are so excited to have one of America’s favorite chocolate producers join The Consortium,” said Dr. Sarah Lewis of the Food, Beverage, and Agriculture Sector of TSC. “Hershey is a company that understands what the consumer wants and produces quality while still maintaining an important role in sustainability—we look forward to their partnership.”

The Sustainability Consortium completed knowledge products for over 100 product categories in 2012, 42 percent of which came from the FBA Sector Working Group. FBA is one of the nine working groups that operate within The Consortium, including the newest working group Clothing, Footwear, and Textiles. All of the working groups will meet face-to-face during The Sustainability Consortium’s Spring Member Summit in Atlanta May 14-16.
