We are pleased to announce that the Measurement Sciences Working Group has passed a motion to adopt the LCA accounting framework as established in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol by the World Resources Institute (WRI). This motion is the culmination of the last several months of work by the MSWG, and we will be issuing a joint press release with WRI to the public to announce this important milestone.
Over the summer and fall of 2010, the MSWG reviewed and compared each of the leading global standards for the application of LCA. During this time, each of the standards were examined in detail, and assessed for applicability and use in TSC sectors. Although the WRI standard is specifically for greenhouse gases, the group concluded that the LCA accounting standards found in the standard were applicable to a full suite of impact categories. I have attached the text of the motion for your review.
The adoption of this motion not only helps to drive global consistency in product level measurement and gives TSC sectors a leading protocol for LCA, but also represents the potential for a strong partnership with WRI. We have worked closely with WRI throughout this process, and believe that there are many opportunities for future collaboration and progress between our two organizations. We look forward to working closely with WRI and their leadership team as we continue to develop a common framework for sustainable product measurement.
I want to extend a special thanks to all who contributed their time and energy to this project. This is a significant achievement for all involved, and we are excited to build on this momentum in the coming months.
