Grodan Joins TSC

TEMPE, ARIZ., – July 17, 2012 – The Grodan Group announced today its membership in The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), an independent global organization that creates sustainability standards for consumer products.. The Consortium is made up of 90 members including retailers, suppliers, non-profits and government agencies.

Grodan joins The Consortium as a member of the Food, Beverage and Agriculture (FBA) Sector, which carries huge importance for The Consortium in 2012. Forty-five percent of the categories being covered by TCS’s Sustainability Measurement and Reporting System in 2012 belong to the FBA sector. “The Grodan Group’s innovative horticultural production techniques and scientific expertise will be very beneficial to the work of the Food, Beverage, and Agriculture Sector of TSC.  We are looking forward to collaborating with the team at Grodan as we develop product category dossiers, Category Sustainability Profiles, and Key Performance Indicators for the fresh produce industry,” said Sarah Lewis, Sector Director, Food Beverage and Agriculture.

“Contributing towards a sustainable horticultural sector is the main driver of the Grodan organisation. We want to further improve the sustainable production of healthy, safe and tasty fresh produce grown by our customers. We do this by developing sustainable stone wool growing media and Precision Growing methods focused on using less water, fertiliser and energy and realizing higher fruit yield and quality. The LCA’s which are currently being developed by TSC will also help us identify the most important areas on which to concentrate our future developments. Being a member of TSC will also give us the opportunity to share our expertise, built up over more than 40 years, and contribute to the LCA development for greenhouse grown produce,” mentioned Stuart Lambie, Sustainability Manager at Grodan.
