TEMPE, Ariz.,
– March 5, 2012– The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute has announced its membership with The Sustainability Consortium, an independent organization of diverse global participants working to design and implement credible, transparent and scalable science-based measurement and reporting systems accessible for all producers and users of consumer products.

The Institute promotes innovation in material chemistry and manufacturing processes to retain the value of materials for future re-use. The Institute maintains the rigorous Cradle to Cradle product certificationCM. The Institute certifies materials and products that meet these standards and works to generate demand among manufacturers, retailers, government agencies
and the public for Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM products.

The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute has joined The Consortium to contribute to our efforts in identifying sustainability measures and in the Paper and Toys Sectors

“The Sustainability Consortium contains true leadership and a vision for sustainability across multiple sectors,” said Bridgett Luther, President at
the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. “The Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM program has helped hundreds of companies make safer and healthier products while improving their bottom lines, and we look forward
to offering our help and experience.”

The Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM program provides guidelines to help businesses implement the Cradle to Cradle® framework, which focuses on using safe materials that can be disassembled and reused as technical nutrients or composted as biological nutrients. Products are evaluated in five categories: Material Health, Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy Use, Water Stewardship, and Social Responsibility.

“Cradle to Cradle has developed principles and tools that help us think completely differently about sustainable consumption,” said Kevin Dooley, Academic Director of The Sustainability Consortium at Arizona State University.  “We believe our collaboration will help create a new generation
of more sustainable consumer products.”

In joining TSC, the Institute looks forward to a robust exchange of best practices across multiple sectors in ways that increase industry and
consumer demand for innovations in product design and manufacturing.
