Syngenta and The Sustainability Consortium’s sustainability reporting tools and frameworks are further aligned to streamline value chain reporting and data collection for additional product categories.

TEMPE, Ariz. –The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) is pleased to announce that Syngenta, a member of TSC, has completed a two-year benchmarking assessment that further aligns its Sustainable Outcomes in Agriculture (SOA) standard with TSC’s THESIS (The Sustainability Insight System). Building on the initial alignment completed in fall 2023, expanded benchmarking incorporates 21 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across 38 product categories – a decision that has strengthened the framework for continuous improvement and simplified sustainability reporting for growers. Enabled through the user-friendly Cropwise™ Sustainability mobile application, Syngenta’s SOA standard facilitates any grower or supply chain company in seamlessly tracking and communicating their progress in adopting regenerative practices.

Key Updates:

  • Benchmarking Assessment: Following a two-year benchmarking process, Syngenta and TSC have collaborated to align the SOA standard with THESIS in 21 KPIs across 38 product categories.
  • Guidance for Suppliers: Syngenta and TSC have co-authored a Guidance document for Tier-1 suppliers – highlighting key direction on how to utilize Syngenta’s SOA standard to complete their assessment in THESIS. This Guidance, available in Fall 2024, will help suppliers use aggregated data from the Cropwise Sustainability application to report verified metrics into THESIS.
  • Availability: The Guidance document will be available to suppliers in Fall 2024.

Why This Matters:

This enhanced alignment aims to harmonize how the value chain measures and reports on sustainable agriculture, reducing the reporting burden for suppliers. Syngenta’s benchmarking of the SOA standard to THESIS enables the following:

  • Reducing Reporting Burden: Enables THESIS users reporting against TSC’s KPIs in produce, grains, other crops, and complex products to utilize SOA’s relevant criteria and indicator practices.
  • Streamlined Process: Provides a simple, efficient, and actionable approach to sustainability reporting through the Cropwise Sustainability application, including insights to assess performance compared to aggregated and anonymized grower performance in the region.
  • Comprehensive Tracking: Empowering growers with a diversified overview of their performance in six sustainable outcomes – crop production, water impact, soil health, biodiversity and habitat, human and animal well-being, and community leadership.

By incorporating Syngenta’s SOA standard in the THESIS platform, TSC continues to foster collaboration toward consistent reporting in sustainability. The alignment includes benchmarking for suppliers of various crops, expanding the ability to support growers and supply chain stakeholders in measuring their progress in a credible and scalable way today, with goals to offer additional product categories in the future.
