“Collaboration and scientific background is
what sets The Sustainability Consortium apart.”

What is your role at The Sustainability Consortium (TSC)?

I support the Home and Personal Care Sector Working Group as a research associate. Since my background is in toxicology and product safety, I can offer my knowledge to other working groups as well. When someone asks me questions, I look at it from a toxicology perspective because that is what I know right now. As I learn more about TSC’s work, I can think about how to use it in the home and personal care sector.

What does your day-to-day look like?
I usually have meetings with research groups and meet with member groups to make sure everything is going smoothly. There is plenty of learning and research for me as well as, getting up to speed on the knowledge products and TSC activities. I am currently working on the chemicals of concern taskforce and new TSC product categories.

Explain the Chemicals of Concern Taskforce.
This taskforce deals with the safe use of ingredients in products. TSC is coming up with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure the sustainability of chemicals of concern in products.

What is your favorite part of your role at TSC?

I have only been here for ten weeks but I really enjoy the freedom to pursue ideas, thinking, and innovation. I am not restricted in my thought processes. I think the out-of-the-box type of thinking is really cool.

In your words, how is TSC different then other similar initiatives?

I think scientific foundation here separates us from different organizations. We have member companies that can provide data and have the academic resources of Arizona Statue University and the University of Arkansas to pursue data. The fact that we document and present that data to the members with scientific background that explains why is what makes us unique. Plus, TSC has to be transparent about sources and data and where’re we getting our information.
