In November 2022, TSC launched the second edition of the SLI. This summit workshop session continues the journey that began there. Along with our partners from Human Systems Dynamics Institute, we bring together leaders from across consumer goods supply chains to build their adaptive capacity to meet the urgent, uncertain, and complex challenges of the future. In addition to the December workshop, the program includes a series of monthly webinars to introduce new tools, reinforce practice, and build relationships across the system to support us as we lead through crisis and chaos.  

Join this workshop session to become part of this leadership learning journey. We will: 

• Review human systems dynamics’ (HSD)  foundations for leading in the face of crisis 
• Share stories from colleagues about their experiences of shifting patterns to improve performance for themselves and their teams, organizations, and communities.

Despite widespread interest in regenerative agriculture in recent years, there is no legal or regulatory definition of the term, nor a widely accepted definition of what set of agricultural practices or outcomes constitute regenerative agriculture. In this session, participants will hear from a range of organizations that are developing a definition for the term “regenerative agriculture” and a common set of metrics that it aims to enhance. Participants will also learn about how to align communication about the value of consistent year-over-year measurement of regenerative agriculture, and its value to growers, packers, shippers, buyers, brands and to grower/industry groups.

The Scope 3 impacts of any organization represent a complex, messy wicked issue, one ripe for applying the methods of Adaptive Capacity from Human Systems Dynamics (HSD) to find possibilities for creating change and moving forward. In this interactive workshop, participants will apply processes of adaptive capacity to collectively identify and leverage the characteristics of wrangling Scope 3 emissions data to articulate conditions for change. Participants will walk away with methods and ideas to apply to their own wicked problems of Scope 3 and beyond.

Option 1: Arizona Worm Farm and Cihuapactli Collective

The Arizona Worm Farm is a unique 10-acre urban farm whose mission is to turn garbage into food. Using the power of Red Wiggler Worms, Black Soldier Flies, and hot compost piles, the farm turns valley waste into natural gardening products, vegetable starts, and produce. In addition to the Worm Farm, we will travel to Spaces of Opportunity to hear from a women-led, indigenous food forest cooperative called the Cihuapactli Collective. 

Option 2: North Gateway Transfer Station, City of Phoenix Public Works

Jeff Whitlock, Zero Waste Analyst, from the City of Phoenix, Public Works center will lead attendees through the city’s zero waste progress towards goals set for 2050. Whitlock will show us around the Materials Recovery Facility where recyclables are both hand sorted and machine sorted.
